PM10 emissions in 2016 per inhabitant

This map shows the emissions of suspended particulate matter with a diameter of less than 10 µm in kg/inhabitant per municipality on the Upper Rhine.

PM10 emissions come from many sources, in particular from the combustion of biomass and fossil fuels, in the residential and tertiary sectors and from road traffic. Some industrial sectors and processes are also sources of emissions (quarrying, woodworking, building sites and construction, cereal handling, chemicals, foundries, cement works, etc.) as well as agriculture (among other things, tillage, livestock breeding and cultivation), and transport (road wear, tyres and brakes and resuspension).

In the Upper Rhine area the main sources of PM10 emissions are the residential and tertiary sector and road transport.
